Standing obediently behind Alfred Blayn and looking round the Council Chamber, that he now knew better than his own bedroom, Kennet noticed three things. Firstly, Rufus Stytch was late again. The Ichomaster always seemed to be the last to turn up, complete with an unctuous smile as he strode into the room, as if he took great pleasure in making the other Masters wait for him. From what Kennet had heard, he had never been a much-liked man and his connection to the Grimm by blood had only made the others more suspicious of his comings and goings, making him all the more sour and disagreeable in turn. Kennet was not saddened by the man’s absence; Rufus terrified him.
